No further mention of the redskins, unless talking about them in a negative fashion, will be tolerated on this message-board..It is common knowledge that I dont like the team that has a racist name and a history of racist behavior. The "Native-American-Haters" were also the last team to hire an African-American in ANY capacity...that man was Bobby Mitchell(player). George Preston Marshall(their owner) was a flaming racist who insisted on monopolizing the fan-base of the American South in the 1950's. He did this by not hiring African-Americans and denying the rights of any new southern team to join the NFL...most especially the unborn Cowboy franchise. His precious "fight song" is the very reason he lost his monopoly on the south. In the late 1950's the writer of the "fight song", was down and out and needed some money, so he sold the rights to his song to the Dallas Cowboys organization (unknowingly, of course). This fact was immediately thrown in the face of George Preston Marshall(The Grand Wizard of the "Klan-skins"). An Ultimatum was then put to Mr. Marshall...something to the effect of: "If you ever want to play your precious fight song again in your stadium or anywhere else for that matter, you will have to cease and desist all franchise blocking against the Dallas Cowboys"....Check-mate, as they say! George Preston Marshall (the Peter Angelos of his day) tipped over his king and conceded his first(of many)losses to the Dallas Cowboys! He reached an agreement to get his "fight song" back and let the Cowboys in the NFL. The rest is history! A side note here: Most Klan-skin fans are not aware that the original lyrics of their fight song included the line: "Fight for old Dixie". Under some pressure and considering the civil-rights atmosphere of the day it was reluctantly changed to: "Fight for old DC"! Even though they were the last team....by many years to sign an African-American player (1962). And most skins fans think the redskin-Cowboy rivalry started with George Allen.... Moral of the story: A little knowledge is a dangerous thing! You can process these facts however you see fit...but they are, never-the-less, facts! It is my opinion that anyone who knows the history on this matter is either still a "klan-Skin" fan and a defacto Klansman, or is (and rightly so) outraged and will never, if they ever did, cheer for them again. Or maybe, just in complete denial! Another side-point: why not change the name to simply : "The Skins", and change the team emblem to something that isn't indicative of a "Minstrel-show" mentality? Then wounds can begin to heal and respect can be gained and Karma can be banked. I will leave the previous post up as an example of how NOT to use this message-board, and I will further stipulate, that no racism of any kind will be tolerated in my studio or my website. All further posts like the previous will be "DUA"...Deleted Upon Arrival! Learn your history! Eric Weinberg
